When patients think about cosmetic surgery, most weigh the possibility of side effects heavily before making a decision. In the end, most patients go through with the procedure once they have found a way to finance their surgery. Every good surgeon requires their patients to undergo an evaluation process to determine whether or not they are a good candidate for surgery. If you are considering plastic surgery, you may be asking yourself some tough questions. Depending on the nature of the question, your physician may answer your questions or refer you to previous patients.

As with any surgery, there are risks involved in anesthesia. Though complications are extremely rare, there is a risk of allergic reactions, aspirating on vomit or heart failure. The chances of that happening are extremely low, but nevertheless, they are present. To prevent something like this from happening, disclose all medical information to your physician before surgery. If pain killers or opiate medications make you nauseous, give you rashes, dizziness, etc. it is imperative to tell your physician. Other medications can be used in these cases.

Your doctor will probably tell you to stop taking all medications for about a month before your operation. Herbal medications and over the counter medications can drastically increase the risk of bleeding. Most patients never consider the affects of herbal medications to be dangerous because they are natural, but everything we put in our bodies creates a reaction. Be sure to follow your doctor’s orders and stop drinking alcohol and taking medicine for at least a month before surgery.

You will probably be prescribed an antibiotic before surgery in order to reduce the risk of infection. Some patients take antibiotics for as long as a week to two weeks before and after their operations. Every body responds to antibiotics differently. Be sure to follow doctor’s orders and take your antibiotics faithfully. Once set in, an infection after cosmetic surgery can be deadly.

Another risk not usually taken seriously is the risk of hiring an inexperienced surgeon. A botched surgery caused by an inexperienced surgeon leads to more complications than can be listed here. Needless to say, undergoing repeated surgeries, like revision rhinoplasty, attempting to repair the damage done by a bad surgeon is the least of your problems. Bad surgery can kill a patient.

As a rule of thumb, it is a good idea to look for an Orange County plastic surgeon or Plastic surgery Beverly Hills because that area is so rich in skilled physicians. Dr. Jay Calvert, MD, FACS is a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery. He also repairs the damage done by nasal fractures, botched surgeries, birth defects and more. He accepts new patients on Wednesdays and Fridays at one of his two offices in Newport Beach or Beverly Hills. To contact him, go to http://www.drcalvert.com/.

There is no lack of skincare creams and lotions in the market. Name an ailment, and you will find hundreds of skin care creams, lotions and other products for it. As a result of ongoing research and due to ever increasing demand, the number of skincare products seems to be on the increase. Skin Care lotions and skin care creams are the most popular forms in which these products are available, and there always seems to be a debate on which form is better?

Well, there is no definitive answer to this. It seems more like a matter of personal choice. However, greasy creams are surely less popular as compared to the non-greasy (or less greasy) ones. Since the application of natural skin care creams is easier, they seem to be preferred (over lotions) in cases where the skincare product is not to be removed immediately after application. So, natural skin care creams seem more popular as moisturizers than as cleansers or toners. For toners, lotions seem to be preferred over natural skin care creams. There are some skincare creams that acts as toners too, but generally the toners are available in liquid form only. For cleansing, lotions and skincare creams are equally popular; however, the tilt seems more towards lotions.

Creams are known to be most effective in keeping skin moist; hence, the most popular form of natural skin care creams is moisturizers. Due to the same reason, a lot of people tend to associate skin care creams with dry and sensitive skin. Though it is true to a certain extent, natural skin care creams are not used only for dry skin, they are also used for making products for oily skin e.g. vitamin A creams and sulphur creams that help reduce the rate of sebum production.

Skin Care creams are also used for products that cater to skin disorders especially for disorders that require the application of product over a small localized area. This is again due to the fact that skin care creams are easier to apply (without wastage) on the affected area. However, in cases where skin needs to be washed using a medicine/product, lotion is a better choice. Mostly, the manufacturers too realize this fact, making it easier for you to choose between a lotion and a skin care cream

Eye-creams and anti-aging creams are other examples where skin care cream is preferred over its lotion counterpart.

Whatever your choice be (cream or lotion), knowing how to use it effectively, is more important than anything else.

Lakmé Fashion Week 2010 is just round the corner and the fashion industry is gearing up for another blast of pure beauty, indulgence and style. Names such as Tamara Moss, Simran Kaur Mundi, Nethra Raghuraman and Alesia Raut adorn the participant list for this event. Let us decode some of the make-up ideas from these models that you can wear too.

Classic make-up

The classic make-up is timeless, fresh and beautiful. This is a versatile look and is frequently seen on the catwalk. It gives an effect of fresh dewy complexion.

How?

(See Beauty Kit for recommendations)
•    To achieve a flawless classic look, apply a light-weight, loose mineral powder foundation or tinted moisturiser. Set it with compact powder.
•    Create a healthy glow on the cheeks by applying powder blush in coral peach or subtle pink. Apply it to the apples of the cheek and to the cheekbones for a more defined look.
•    Powder blush stays longer so avoid cream blushes.
•    Keep the lips neutral. Stick to the shades of pinkish browns or nudes. Lighter shades of pink will also help you attain a natural look.
•    Give your eyes a soft smoky effect, using light browns or very light shades till the brow line. The eyeliner should not have a definite shape, so try to smudge the line close to the lashes. Apply a little mascara to open up the eyes.

No make-up look

The no make-up is a quick and on-the go look. This look has become popular on the catwalk recently. It gives an effect of a luminescent complexion.

How?

•    For this look, apply a liquid foundation and then correct all the flaws with a concealer or a corrector. Berzin Irani* suggests that an under eye concealer is absolutely essential.
•    To set the foundation, dust some face powder or a loose mineral powder.
•    Apply very little powder blush in plum or pink.
•    Highlight the cheekbones to create creating a chiseled look.
•    Keep the lips luminous by applying gloss in shades of pink or plum. Highlight the softness and suppleness of your lips.
•    The eyeliner should have a definite shape and try to use brown or blackish brown shades. Apply eye-shadow in shades of browns or chocolates and end with a little mascara to open up the eyes.

Femme fatale look

The Femme fatale make up look is timeless, beautiful and glamorous. This is a popular vintage look on the catwalk. It is an appropriate party or night time look.

How?

•    To achieve the Femme Fatale look, apply a liquid foundation and then correct all the flaws with a concealer or a corrector. Set the make-up with loose mineral powder.
•    Add definition and subtle highlights to the cheekbones with sculpting powder or a blush in browns or darker shades.
•    Create a ‘vampish’ pout. Stick to the shades of reds and plums to make your lips stand out with bold colours.
•    This look is high on drama, so the eyes should be bold and seductive. Use pastel shades to create a smoky eye. Use dark eyeliner to line near the lashes. Create voluminous eye lashes with two-three coats of mascara. The brows should be well defined as well. Kohl or kajal can be applied to define the eyes well.
